FROM THE CARTOON TO THE MOVIE: PETER PAN & TARZAN

We are sure that you all saw and loved Disney cartoons when you were children. In the latest years films based on these cartoons have been shot and they have been greatly successful. In this post we want to tell you about some of those films and differences from the cartoons.

PETER PAN

« All children grow up except one: Peter Pan »
Peter Pan is a 2003 adventure fantasy film. It was the first film adaptation of J.M. Barrie's play  in half a century, after Disney’s version in 1953.
Plot
Wendy Darling mesmerizes her brothers every night with bedtime tales of swordplay, swashbuckling, and the fearsome Captain Hook. But the children become the heroes of an even greater story, when Peter Pan flies into their home one night and takes them to the jungles of Neverland. Wendy and her brothers join Peter and the Lost Boys in a life free of grown-up rules and against Hook and his pirates.
Film vs cartoon
There aren’t many differences between this film and the cartoon. In both versions the main characters are Peter Pan, Wendy and Captain Hook and the plot is the same, also the finale. Peter and Hook are the personifications of a child’s behavior, the first, and the adult world, the latter. Wendy represents  teenagers who pass from childhood to adult world. The relationship between Wendy and Peter chnges in the movie:  they fall in love.

TARZAN

Plot
In the 19th Century, John Clayton (Tarzan) is married with Jane Clayton and fully adapted to their life in London. He is invited by King Leopold of Belgium to visit Africa but he refuses. However,   American Dr. George Washington Williams convinces him to go since he wants to prove they enslave people in the Belgian colonies. Jane also goes with them and out of the blue, the village where they are lodged is attacked by the mercenaries commanded by Leon Rom, who works for king Leopold. He wants to capture Tarzan to deliver him to Chief Mbonga, who is seeking revenge since Tarzan killed his only son. In return, Rom will receive a chest of diamonds that he will use to pay mercenaries to invade Congo. Many battles begin but at the end John can defeat Mbonga, but spares his life. John and Jane remain in Africa and return to the rightful place whereTarzan was born.
Movie vs Cartoon
The film takes place in London. The plot is quite different, because the film tells about Tarzan’s life after he goes away from Africa, so it may be considered a sequel to the story told in the cartoon,  However, at  the end of the film Tarzan returns to his home in the jungle. Even though he changed his life once in London, inside he is still a free spirit.

Which ones do you prefer? The cartoon or the film adaptations of these stories?
